Volunteer Supported Recovery is the heartbeat of Tallgrass. It is what makes our programs unlike any other. Nearly four hundred volunteers from the recovery community give their time, wisdom, and compassion to support our guests. Many are Tallgrass alumni who return to help the next person find the same freedom they found. Others are long time members of the recovery community who simply believe in carrying the message of hope.
This volunteer presence creates an environment filled with authenticity, warmth, and lived experience. Guests see recovery in action all around them. They witness people who once stood exactly where they stand now, living sober, purposeful, connected lives. This gives them something priceless. A sense of hope that feels real.
Volunteer supported recovery is more than a program feature. It is a lifeline.
Real People. Real Experience. Real Recovery.
Volunteers share their own stories of addiction, transformation, and spiritual awakening. Guests learn from people who genuinely understand the struggle and can offer practical guidance with compassion and clarity.
Volunteers make guests feel welcomed, loved, and valued from the moment they walk through the door. Guests quickly realize they are not alone. They are part of a community that truly wants them to succeed.
Support That Continues Beyond the Program
Many volunteers become long term connections for guests. They meet at meetings, community events, and fellowship gatherings. These relationships often last years.
Powerful Inspiration
Seeing volunteers who maintain long term sobriety helps guests believe in their own ability to recover. It shows them what is possible.
Service Strengthens Everyone
Service is a core principle of recovery. Volunteers help guests, and by doing so, their own recovery grows stronger. This creates a mutual cycle of healing, connection, and spiritual growth.
Guidance and Conversation
Volunteers are available throughout the day for personal conversations, step related questions, and emotional support.
Meeting Leadership
Many volunteers lead meetings, share their stories, and present Big Book material that brings recovery to life.
Mentorship
A number of volunteers serve as mentors, guiding guests one on one through the 12 steps and helping them develop a spiritual practice.
Community Involvement
Volunteers introduce guests to the larger recovery community, helping them build relationships, attend outside meetings, and begin forming a support network that lasts far beyond their time at Tallgrass.
Connection Through Fellowship
Meals, conversations, laughter, and honest sharing help guests feel connected and supported throughout their stay.
Volunteer Supported Recovery is what makes Tallgrass feel so warm, human, and spiritually alive. Guests often say that the volunteers are what made them feel safe enough to open up and willing enough to begin the work. Volunteers bring heart, humility, and lived truth into every interaction.
This is the Tallgrass difference. A community built not on theory, but on love and shared purpose.

For 20 years, Tallgrass has been providing Recovery that works.
Through the 12 Steps, spiritual awakening, and a community that refuses to give up, people who arrive consumed by fear, isolation, and hopelessness begin to experience freedom, connection, purpose, and a life of service. For two decades, Tallgrass has turned what begins as a desperate search for a way out into something extraordinary: a new freedom, a new happiness, and a life worth living.
Help us celebrate the people, partnerships, and stories that made 20 years of recovery possible.

Clinical research from Harvard Medical School shows that Twelve Step Facilitation (TSF) significantly improves long-term recovery outcomes. Compared to other leading therapies, individuals in TSF programs experienced 60–71% higher rates of sustained remission in the first year. Even more compelling, at a 3-year follow-up, abstinence rates were 50% higher among those engaged in Twelve Step–based care.
These results are driven by one key factor: active participation in recovery communities like AA, which has been shown to create lasting behavioral change, stronger support systems, and improved accountability.
At Tallgrass Recovery, our Twelve Step Program approach is designed to connect you with these proven pathways to long-term sobriety—so recovery is not just possible, but sustainable.
